A good starting point is to have the centre of the screen at eye level when you are seated — often around 105–115 cm from the floor in a typical living room. Rooms where you watch from a bar stool or bed will sit a little higher. Sit where you normally watch and mark the height that feels comfortable.

VESA refers to the standard spacing between the four mounting holes on the back of your TV, measured in millimetres (for example 200×200 or 400×400). Your bracket must support your TV's VESA pattern and its weight, so always check both before buying or fitting a mount.

You should always fix into the solid studs behind the plasterboard, or use fixings specifically rated for the load on that wall type. Plasterboard alone cannot safely hold the weight of a television. If you are unsure what is behind your wall, consult a professional.

Choose a fixed mount for a low-profile look at eye level, a tilting mount if the TV sits above eye level or you want to reduce glare, and a full-motion mount for corners or open-plan rooms where you want to angle the screen. Our mounting guide explains each in more detail.

The tidiest options are a surface-mounted cable channel (paintable trunking) or, on stud walls, in-wall cable routing kits. Bundle cables with reusable ties and leave a little slack so you can adjust the TV later. See the cable steps in our setup guide.

Start with a "Movie", "Cinema" or "Filmmaker" picture mode for the most accurate colours, set brightness to suit your room, and consider turning off strong motion smoothing if movement looks unnaturally smooth. Then tweak to your personal taste.
